When people experience trauma or painful life events, they can develop - often without knowing - behavioural strategies to avoid the emotional pain these events elicit. However, these avoidance strategies can create additional suffering (i.e. psychological symptoms). I use Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), which focuses on helping people see their avoidance strategies and how they create their psychological symptoms. Patients decide if they want to relinquish their avoidance strategies through facing their underlying emotional pain. In the ‘nest’ of the therapeutic relationship, patients increase their psychological ‘fitness’ for facing emotional pain and discomfort. As they do so, they relinquish their avoidance strategies that create their psychological suffering, thus providing relief.

Faustina Delany

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST / CO-DIRECTOR

I'm a clinical psychologist with nearly a decade of experience in private practice, working with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, and trauma. I seek to create a collaborative space where you feel empowered to move through what's keeping you stuck, and towards reconnecting with the more whole and authentic you. My approach is grounded in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), which helps people access their unconscious and bring to awareness underlying psychological conflicts and unexpressed core emotions. I have training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Internal Family Systems, and Schema Therapy, which inform my work.

I also offer clinical hypnotherapy to prepare for cancer related surgery, which is evidenced to reduce preoperative anxiety, reduce pain post-op, and improve recovery time.

Finally, I am involved in training in psychedelic-assisted therapy for PTSD, which is grounded in ethical, legal, and trauma-informed care.
